Who We Are

Each and every member of the BUSS ChemTech staff contributes to the successful delivery of our products and services around the world.

Since 1884, we have been partners with the chemical industry, developing innovative technologies and solutions. From our beginnings supplying structural steel to delivering complex turnkey chemical plants backed by performance guarantees today, it is our people who are central to our success.

Highly educated and motivated people, the appropriate tools to improve quality and effectiveness, and an atmosphere conducive to personal interaction as well as creative work, all guided by our Swiss “SME” (small-to-medium sized company) values, make us who and what we are.

Our Heritage

The Beginning.

Albert Buss & Cie., a structural steel engineering and construction company, was founded in Basel, Switzerland.

1884

The Pratteln Site.

Brisk business required a new location with room to grow. Within a few years, the company moved its entire operations here.

1894

The Move to Engineering.

The company began servicing the bugeoning local chemical and pharmaceutical industries in and around Basel.

1919

The BUSS Kneader.

The first in a series of significant inventions, the first BUSS Kneader was delivered. This machine which would ultimately become a staple in the production of green anodes for the aluminum industry.

1948

The BUSS-Loop® Reactor.

Installed in Columbia, the first plant based on BUSS ChemTech's next invention, revolutionized food storage and safety.

1952

Market Introduction: Fluorine Technology.

The first BUSS Anydrous Hydrofluoric Acid plant was commissioned. This technology would eventually be used throughout the world and is still in use today.

1961

Dynamic Phosgene Production.

The company commercialized an innovative technology - originally from then Ciba Geigy - which produced this very useful - but also harmful - intermediate chemical on demand with safety standards that have since become the worldwide standard.

1990

Market Introduction: Surfactants

Adapted for alkoxylation reactions, the first BUSS-Loop® Reactor for the production of non-ionic surfactants began service in Germany. Today, this technology produces about a third of worldwide supply.

1992

ISO 9001 Certification.

We achieved certification when we were still a part of BUSS AG. We have been certified without interruption ever since.

1994

The Advanced Phosgenation Reactor.

The first Advanced Phosgenation Reactors (APR), a combination of our experience with phosgene and the BUSS-Loop® Reactor's superior performance, were commissioned.

2012

Resin Hydrogenation.

The first integrated base and hydrogenated resin plant using in-house developed polymerization technology was successfully commissioned in Asia.

2023

Chemical Recycling.

BUSS ChemTech enters the mixed waste plastic recycling market with a patented reactor design and process. The energy neutral system efficiently processes the waste to create materials that can be used to make new plastics.

Buss ChemTech is incredibly diverse for me. I like the mixture of creativity and structure. I like working at the front desk because my day-to-day work is varied and enriching. Despite my many administrative tasks, there is still plenty of interaction with customers and internal cooperation. Buss ChemTech offers many training opportunities for my personal and professional development.

Office Manager

Compared to the previous companies I worked at, at BCT there is continuity in the management directives and business vision. For my day-to-day tasks, this means I can rely on senior/experienced colleagues, on well-archived project documents, clear guidelines and standard practices. Management supports us in taking the time to efficiently record and peer-review calculations and analyses.

Project Engineer

Either considering the D. Pink model, which underscores autonomy, mastery, and purpose, or the F. Herzberg model, which highlights company policies, salary, and physical environment, I perceive Buss Chemtech organization as both healthy and hygienic. The international projects offer a higher level of experience and stimulation. Moreover, the commitment to a good work-life balance, further enhances the appeal of working within this organization.

Business Manager

At BCT, everyone knows everyone else and it's a bit like being part of a big family. In the daily variety of tasks involved in plant planning projects, you can fully develop your engineering skills and find the best process solution as a team. At the end of the day, being able to commission the chemical plant designed by you and your colleagues is the crowning glory of any chemical engineer.

Our Facilities

Our modern office and the technical center housing our laboratory and pilot plants are located on the original site of the BUSS “Areal” or industry park.

We are easily accessible by public transportation (tram, bus and commuter rail) as well as nearby highway access making it easy for employees, suppliers, service providers, and clients alike, to reach us.

Modern ergonomic work stations and chairs with lots of natural lighting, make for an amenable environment. Supplementing the work areas, we have numerous conference rooms – large and small – as well as additional areas for more casual “standing” meetings. This is topped off by a spacious break area with a mini-wet kitchen and plenty of confortable seating.

Ergnomics is not just important to us for our office personnel. This extends to our technical center where equipment and procedures are adapted to the employees well being as much as possible. And it goes without saying that the safe of all of our personnel, whether in our laboratory, one of pilot plants, in the office, or at one of our client’s locations, we strictly follow relevant safety precautions and procedures.
